Valencia, Spain in Winter

It's the Mediterranean, so the plants are impressive year-round. Here are a few that are in bloom in January.


Aloe arborescens, Candelabra aloe. A cousin of the famous aloe vera.

Aechmea fasciata, Urn Plant. A bromeliad.


Crassula ovata, Jade plant.


These cute little parakeets were making so much noise I thought there must be 10 or 15 up there. But only this one pair, and another pair on the other side of this clump of giant yuccas.



Honestly, if you want to visit the Mediterranean, go in spring. The weather is more agreeable and you get the most flowers in bloom.
