Carduus nutans
A beautifully symmetrical sphere of purple.
The nodding thistle is on the super naughty list. It is an invasive species here in North America, and very ouchy if you step on one barefooted, or even pass by too closely with sandals.
They are happily growing here between the road and this farm just outside of Bonanza, Oregon.
